Editorial Review:

Product Description:
No limit hold em is exploding in popularity. Before 2000, it could be difficult to find a game. In 2006, it is played everywhere in casino cardrooms, in bar backrooms and homes, and on the Internet.

Now anyone can find a game, but few know how to play well. Most players learn by watching television or by listening to dubious advice from their friends. While they may have picked up a valuable tidbit here or there, most players come to the table without a winning plan. These players have two options: wise up or go broke.

The world s foremost poker theorist, David Sklansky, and noted poker authority, Ed Miller, will wise you up quickly. No Limit Hold em: Theory and Practice is the definitive work on this complex game. It provides you a window into the heads of experts, teaching you in straightforward and enjoyable terms the how s and why s of winning play.

It covers critical concepts like manipulating the pot size, adjusting correctly to stack sizes, winning the battle of mistakes, reading hands, and manipulating opponents into playing badly. It teaches you about implied odds and how to size your bets and raises effectively. It even covers many principles of short stacked play that will give you a big edge in no limit hold em tournaments.

Never before have so many people played no limit hold em, and never before has there been so much opportunity to win big. If you want your share of the spoils, read this book!

Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Very annoying political correctness
The book and advice is Ok.
But........
His liberal political correctness is VERY annoying, eg.
I play at a club in my area where ther are approx 50 people a night playing.
3 tournament tables, and 2-3 cash tables.
On any night there might be 1-3 women at the tourny tables, and NO women at the cash tables.
Similar to most casino's and clubs.
Yet...
Davy boy feels it necesary to refer to your opponent in Every hand example as she, and her.
It might not seem important, but.....
When he refers to a tight player I like to think of Wally or Lee,
when he refers to an aggressive player I picture James or Steve,
when he refers to calling station I think of Ray or Christian.
By Always using the female gender it slows down my visualizations,
of particular players that I automatically think of when player types are mentioned.
Send a message to this PC nit, and buy another book.
I found 2 other cash books to be better:
1: Harrington on cash - excellent
2: Professional NL hold'em - by Flynn, Mehta, and Miller (this books co-athor) - excellent

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Wishy washy poker thoughts
The author may be famous and all that, but this player found the book lacking in anything actually useful. The author tries to get the reader to adopt an 'attitude' or 'way of thinking' about play, but offers no concrete guidelines. The examples in the book pretty much leave it up to the reader to form his/her own opinion. I was looking for expert advice on why a particular call/raise would be wise or unwise - and didn't find it here.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - EXcellent book for cash games
A great book for cash games, specially for medium stakes. If you want to improve you cash game skills this is a must read.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - not a beginners book
This should not be your first poker book. If you want a beginner's book on hold em, I recommend Sklansky's Hold 'Em Poker.

If you want books on tournament no limit hold em, I recommend getting Harrington on Hold 'em, Vol. 1: Strategic Play and Harrington on Hold 'em, Vol. 2: Endgame.

This book, NLHE:TAP, assumes you know the rules and also assumes you are familiar with concepts like pot odds and implied odds. If you're not familiar with general poker theory, then get The Theory of Poker.

There is a huge difference between no limit hold em and limit hold em. If you want to learn no limit hold em, you have to get a book for no limit hold em. Before you buy a poker book, make sure you know if it is for limit or no limit poker.

There are equations in NLHE:TAP, but they are simple equations. If you can solve linear (simple) equations, you will be fine. You can even skip the equations in this book and still learn a lot.

My favorite part of this book is the second part, which basically just lists 60 "concepts" with brief explanations.

If you are an intermediate or advanced player, you should get this book and wear it out.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - How can someone not give this 5 stars?
I don't understand how someone could not give this book 5 stars. This is simply an incredible book. There are so many good ideas in it that one doesn't know where to start. Since these have been itemized elsewhere, I won't go into details.

Quick Fact: Shopping Inexpensively
Look for and use coupons. These can be found in the Sunday paper, in magazines, sometimes in the telephone book. A coupon is a little slip of paper allowing you to get a small discount when you buy the specific item described. The coupon will say "Save 40 cents on any Pledge", for example. That means that if you present the coupon at the time of purchase, and if you bought the correct brand and size, and if the expiration date has not passed, you will pay 40 cents less for that can of Pledge furniture polish. If the store is having a "double coupon day", the coupon is worth twice as much, (you would pay 80 cents less for a can of Pledge).

Purchases can be made very inexpensively at garage sales and second hand stores. Used items in good condition often can be found for a low price. Also check newspapers and local bulletin boards for listings of used goods for sale.
